Me and my team received first place for our 7 foot tall Muskoka Chair design that was selected by a panel of judges to be created and exhibited at the 2015 Pan Am Games. My contributions to the team consisted of the concept, initial design and execution. With my background at working at the McMichael Art Gallery of Ontario, I drew inspiration from from influential Canadian artists who created art that incorporated our nation’s roots. This is exemplified in the loon, feathers, and fish, influenced by Indigenous artist, Norval Morrisseau. Our Canadian landscape was inspired by the Group of Seven artists through the use of bold colours and the imagery of untouched Canadian landscapes. The design captures Ontario’s cottage life through iconic Canadian imagery pertaining representing our nature and spiritual roots.
